PROCLAIM AND PRACTICE CHRIST'S
LOVE
This Congregation seeks to proclaim the love of God, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. It is our intent to share God's love with as many people of our congregation, community, and the world so that all people might live the best possible life now and in the future.
The Congregation Council
is
responsible for carrying out
this mission of the congregation.
The council consists of the elected officers and a
representative from each board.
The work of the church is accomplished by boards and/or committees as needed. St. James utilizes the following boards: Deacons Education Growth and Life Ministry Memorials Stewardship Trustees WELCA Worship and Music Youth and Family Ministry The Board of Deacons provides direct assistance to this congregation in carrying out the order of worship, maintaining peace and good order during the worship services and in caring for people with special needs. This includes implementing the manual for ushers and greeters. The Board of Education provides programs, activities, and leadership for the educational ministries of the members of this congregation including provision for their spiritual growth through Sunday School, Bible Study and prayer. The Board of Growth and Life Ministry promotes a climate that encourages the sharing of Christ with one another. This includes the assimilation of new members and fellowship events. The board is also responsible for the coordination of community activities with members of this congregation. The Board of Memorials gives advice and assistance to the Pastors, Congregation Council, and donors for the proper receipt and dispersing of memorial funds and gifts. The board also promotes ways in which members and friends may make gifts. The Board of Stewardship initiates and maintains programs for the development of good stewardship attitudes of the members in regard to time, talents, and treasures in order to strive for financial stability. The board also assists in planning for any capital improvements and is responsible for related fund raising. The Board of Trustees manages and maintains the real and personal properties of this congregation, including the use of facilities and all equipment and the grounds. This board is also responsible for the annual review of the insurance policies of this congregation. The Women of the ELCA includes all confirmed women of this congregation. These women, being created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, are committed to grow in faith, affirm their gifts, and support one another in their callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world. The Board of Worship and Music provides for all components of public worship through Word and Sacrament, including the selection and procurement of appropriate music and worship supplies, decorum of the sanctuary, and lectors for the worship services. The Board of Youth & Family Ministry involves members of this congregation in Christian work and service, nurtures and promotes genuine Christian fellowship with regularly planned social and recreational programs and activities, and maintains congregational awareness of youth and family activities and mission trips. |
